The Art Program at St. Anastasia follows the curriculum guidelines set fourth by both the State of Florida and the Diocese of Palm Beach. Emphasis is place on the student's progressive knowledge of color, line, shape, the five basic elements of shape, and the elements and principles of design. Students are regularly introduced to individual artists and their work at every grade level. Lessons are then directly linked to a specific artist, style, or period in art history.
Students in grades 1 through 4 meet every other week for 40 minutes. Grade 5 students meet every week for 45 minutes. Grade 6 students meet every week for 45 minutes starting the second semester of school. Grade 7 students are divided into four groups. Each group has art for one quarter. They meet twice a week for 50 minutes each time. Students in grade 8 may choose Art for their elective class. They meet three times a week for an average of 50 minutes each time.
Whenever possible, lessons in art are planned to enrich, expand, and strengthen lessons taught in the classroom in the areas of Social Studies, Language Arts, Religion, and Music. Students are encouraged to use previously learned skills in art to explore new mediums and new concepts. Students of St. Anastasia re introduced to a variety of dry and wet mediums and techniques for the creation of both two-dimensional and three-dimensional artwork.
