ST ANASTASIA PTO MEETING: September 11, 2008

   

As a school community, we welcomed a moment of silence at 8:50 to remember the events of September 11th and all of those families affected by these events both then and now. 

Meeting called to order at 8:00 am by Jennie Capezza

Opened with a prayer by Mr. Hoeffner.

School update with Mr. Hoeffner :

1.       Magazine Drive doing very well and it looks like we will meet our goals.

2.       Deficiencies are going out next week for________________

3.       September 19th is the 7th and 8th grade dance. Parent volunteers are needed.

4.       September 24th is our annual emergency practice mock lock down drill.

5.       Parent conference is September 25th at 6pm and on the 26th at 1pm.

6.       Parent advisory meeting last week reviewed the  budget with current openings still in PreK through 3rd  grades.

7.       September 26th  is a noon dismissal. This is also “pond day” for the PreK

8.       Parish center under construction to replace roof and damage from Fay and will not be usable for 2 months

 

Development with Donna Lanza:

Magazine drive is up and running with a current tally of  $30,000 currently with 2 more turn in days scheduled. We are anticipating meeting our goal this year which was set for $ 55,000

PTO Update with Jennie Capezza:

1.      Off to a great start this year.

2.      Chili’s back to school night went very well. We raised almost 300.00 (10% of bill).  Thanks to all who came. Dominick's and Tropical Smoothie are planned for the future as part of our community building efforts.

3.      Spaghetti dinner is our next fundraiser which will be on October 7th from 5-7:30pm. See Upcoming Events for more information.

4.      We will not be doing the Yankee candle sale or the Innsbrook this year.

5.      Financial statement available for review.

a.      Playground- Next piece is ~40,000 for the older students. We are looking at other bids for a similar piece.

b.      Bulletin display cases were $575.00. We are looking for volunteers who can help update it periodically.

c.       Banners in cafeteria $160.00.

d.      T-shirts $300.00, profit $75 from last back to school night.

e.      Teacher work room $800.00

f.        Teacher Stipends $3000.00

g.      PTO newsletter copies

h.      Lunch tickets for each classroom. $560.00 this is a service provided to each teacher to be able to give to students who forget their lunch. To help prevent misuse, each teacher will track who receives one and if it was not paid back, no new ticket will be issued.

6.      New families program with host families program doing well.

7.      Homeroom parents- Boards will be in each room tonight for sign ups

 

 

Upcoming Events- most will be fall and winter this year. Contact Jennie for sign ups @ GatrBait2000@aol.com  Don’t forget, all volunteer hours count

1.      Spaghetti dinner- Oct 7th – Dina Hicks chair 5-730

a.      Food will be donated by Frank and Al's. Still need drinks. Flyers will be sent home in 2 Thursday envelops. $5.00 adult, $2.00 per children, no charge for children under 3 years old. Checks need to be made out to St As.  Look in the newsletter and church bulletin for more information. We are  hoping to have a raffle with prizes, a child's after dinner play area and lots of good food and fun.

2.      Family fun day. Oct 25th looking for chair to organize this event.

a.      It will be held on the soccer field with a field day atmosphere. Hours will be 10-2pm with games scheduled throughout the day. This can be a potential fundraiser with tile sales to cover playground wall.

3.      Santa’s Secret Shop- Dec 1-5  Becky Russakis -chair

a.      We will be looking for volunteers soon. Donations are still being accepted. It will be held in the Parish Center and is one of our biggest fundraisers.  Set up will be the weekend after Thanksgiving.

4.      Teacher Appreciation  – Maryann Lange-chair.

a.      No munchies Mondays this year, instead we will  be doing random acts of kindness  such as donate a lunch for your teacher, snacks for lounge (across from Mrs Richmond's) and upstairs for the 6-8th grade teachers (by Mrs Stapleton's classroom) , prayer cards etc.

5.      Website-look for link on library to get extra help with reading
