PHILOSOPHY
Young children gradually grow in readiness for schooling. Their curiosity makes them eager to know and to learn. Their discovery and exploration of the world raises many questions. As they learn about themselves and others, as well as about God's gifts in nature, they develop a caring attitude for creation.
St. Anastasia's Early Childhood Learning Center will focus on enabling children to discover their world through sensory experiences. These three-and four-year olds will learn through activities related to seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching, manipulation, and climbing. Our young children will be given opportunities to explore inside and outside and to work alone or in small groups.
CURRICULUM
The Vincent and Lillian Guettler Early Childhood Learning Center curriculum is developed within an active learning environment with emphasis on religious experiences, language arts, problem solving, and positive social behavior. This High/Scope Preschool curriculum approach utilizes and supports our preschoolers' need to explore and discover.
Key experiences involve children in creative and on going interactions with people, materials, and ideas that extend and strengthen their developing skills and abilities.
A consistent daily routine includes the "plan-do-review" process small group time and large group times. Children have time to express and follow through on their daily goals and intentions, while small and large group time is used for developing letter recognition, phonemic awareness, rhymes, songs, number concepts, and pre-writing skills.
The Early Childhood Learning Center's environment provides all the ingredients of learning: material, manipulations, choices, language from children, and support from a team of teachers, assistants teachers, and administrators.
