Technology Department

Technology Specialist: Laura Dohrer     Technology Support: Joey Trefelner

Saint Anastasia is proud of the level of technology that has been established throughout the school.   A major project was completed last year in which the entire school was wired and connected to a local area network.  Every classroom has a multimedia computer that has internet access.  The school also has a fully equipped computer lab which is composed of 20 computers that are also networked and have immediate access to the internet.

The technology curriculum is designed to provide students with those skills necessary to function in a technological environment.  In the technology lab, students progress from basic computer literacy, through production of sophisticated multimedia projects using peripheral technologies including scanners, multiple printers, and a digital camera.  Emphasis is on production software, including keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheet, draw/paint graphics, and multimedia production.

Primary students (K-2) come to the lab for thirty minutes each week for instruction.  Students are taught basic computer literacy skills.  While the students are in the lab, the focus is to reinforce skills that are being taught in the classroom.

Intermediate students (3-6) come to the lab approximately forty minutes each week.  Students continue work on computer literacy, including working with files and formal keyboarding lessons.  Students develop projects using more sophisticated word processing, paint/draw software and begin incorporating graphics.  There is a basic introduction to simple spreadsheet software and to basic computerized research.

The students in Junior High utilize the  Computer Lab in a variety of ways.  On Fridays, different classes come to the lab to conduct research for the DAR, science fair, religion or language art projects.  Computers is also part of the elective schedule.  In the elective class, students learn to use a desktop publisher and graphic design.
